We were drawn towards the Groenendael when
in the late 60's Jenny attended an obedience show at Crystal Palace in London
and saw a beautiful elegant black dog working. On our next pilgrimage to
Crufts, which in those days was to watch the Obedience, we described the
"mystery" dog to someone at a book stall and were of course told it
was a Groenendael! It was to be two more years before we eventually
tracked down the Groenendael at Crufts and by then we were hooked. At the
time we owned both a German Shepherd and a Border Collie and we felt that the
Groenendael was a combination of both their characters.
After visiting both the
Leircote and Zellik kennels the "Tanje" dynasty was eventually founded in
1972 with the arrival of "Elsa" (Zhale Vanda) our first Groenendael and
first show dog purchased from Hazel Pond. Little did we know then what the
future held but we are still hooked some 30 years later!
All the dogs in our
breeding programme are Hip Scored and Eye Tested and our puppies are born and
reared in the house.
